Parent Support & Guidance

img-sv9

Parenting is one of the most rewarding yet challenging roles, and it’s normal to feel overwhelmed, unsure, or isolated at times. These sessions are a dedicated space for you, the parent, to receive support and guidance. Whether you are navigating your child’s big emotions, behavioural challenges, neurodiversity, or school difficulties, this service helps you explore strategies and strengthen your confidence in your parenting abilities.

This is not about telling you how to parent, but about collaborating with you to find approaches that align with your family’s values and your child’s unique needs. We focus on your well-being, because a supported parent is best equipped to support their child.

Frequently asked questions

(01) Are these sessions a form of therapy for me?
They are therapeutic and supportive, but the primary focus is on skill-building, guidance, and strategising around parenting challenges. If deeper personal issues arise, we can discuss whether a shift to personal therapy would be more appropriate.

(02) My child is seeing you for counselling. Can I have parent sessions with you too?
Yes, this is often a very effective model. I can offer parent sessions alongside your child's therapy, which allows for a cohesive approach while maintaining your child's confidentiality. The parent sessions focus on your role and how you can support the process.
(03) What if my partner and I have different parenting styles?
This is a very common issue. I can work with you individually or with both parents together to help bridge communication gaps, find common ground, and develop a more unified and consistent approach to parenting.
(04) What kind of issues can you help with?
I can help with a wide range of issues, including tantrums and defiance, sibling rivalry, bedtime and routine battles, anxiety, school refusal, supporting a neurodivergent child, and managing your own stress and anger in response to challenging behaviour.
(05) Will you tell me what to do?
I will not give you a prescribed list of instructions. Instead, I will act as a collaborator, offering insights into child development, exploring different strategies, and helping you discover the solutions that feel right and authentic for you and your family.
