Child Counselling

sv-dt1

Childhood is a time of immense growth and change, but it can also be confusing and overwhelming for young children. My child counselling service provides a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental space where your child can explore their feelings through play, creative activities, and talk. I am experienced in helping children navigate big emotions, family changes, school anxieties, and behavioural challenges in a way that feels natural and comfortable for them.

Using a gentle and empathetic approach, I help children give voice to their worries and build the emotional vocabulary and resilience needed to thrive. My goal is to help your child feel heard, understood, and equipped to manage their world with greater confidence.

Frequently asked questions

(01) How do I know if my child needs counselling?
You might notice changes in your child's behaviour, such as increased clinginess, sleep problems, anger outbursts, withdrawal from friends or activities, or a decline in school performance. If these issues are persisting and impacting their daily life, counselling can provide valuable support.

(02) What does a typical session for a young child look like?
Sessions are often play-based. We use toys, art materials, and games to help children express feelings they might not have the words for. The room is a safe space where they can lead the way, and I facilitate understanding and communication through their chosen medium.
(03) Will I be involved in my child's therapy?
Yes, parental involvement is crucial. I typically hold initial parent-only sessions and offer regular check-ins to discuss general themes and progress (while maintaining your child's confidentiality) and provide guidance on how you can support them at home.
(04) How long does child counselling usually take?
The number of sessions varies greatly depending on the child and their needs. Some children see significant progress in a short term (6-12 sessions), while others may benefit from longer-term support. This is something we will review together regularly.
(05) Is everything my child says confidential?
I uphold a child's right to confidentiality to build trust. However, my primary duty is to their safety. I will always be open with you about any significant welfare concerns, and I explain the limits of confidentiality to children in an age-appropriate way.
